Overheating Assessments

Currently, Part O compliance only applies to new build dwellings (not conversions).

Part O exists to protect occupants from overheating by reducing the risk of high indoor temperatures during summer.

To meet Part O, a building must be designed to accomplish two key objectives:

1. Limit solar gains so that the home doesn’t absorb excessive heat.

2. Provide effective ventilation or shading to remove excess heat.

An overheating assessment can be conducted using either the Simplified Method or TM59 Dynamic Thermal Modelling. It’s essential that these calculations are completed prior to construction to allow for early and cost-effective design adjustments.

Oakland Energy offers both assessment methods and can guide you through the entire Part O process from initial design to final approval.
